Clifton Bank School was a private boarding school for "gentlemen's sons" in St. Andrews, Fife. It's most famous former pupil was Earl Haig. Founded in 1856 it flourished in the Victorian and Edwardian Eras. It was reported in the St Andrews Citizen 29 December 1917 that "As more than half of the Clifton Bank School boys have gone to the Colours, Mr Walter G. Mair, the headmaster, has decided to retire, and the school will be closed meantime." Clifton Bank did not reopen and the contents of the school were auctioned off in early 1918. This community will show the impact of the war on some of it's former staff and pupils but will be by no means a comprehensive list.
