The Bankers Battalion - 26th Royal Fusiliers - Employees of United Counties Bank

Remembering the lives of those who worked for the United Counties Bank and also served in the 26th Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, known as the "Bankers Battalion". (United Counties Bank, which had most of its business in the Midlands and Yorkshire, was acquired by Barclay & Co Ltd (later known as Barclays Bank Ltd) in 1916.) Formed in July 1915, the Bankers Battalion took part in the battles at Flers-Courcelette and Transloy (Somme) in 1916, and in the battles of Messines, Pilckem Ridge and Menin Road in 1917.
