Fourteen children were born to James and Elizabeth Borton who married in 1878. There were seven boys, of whom four served in the Great War. All survived. Of the other three, one was too young, one was too short, and the third, Reggie, spent the war interned in Ruhleben camp, near Berlin, from November 1914 to summer 1918.
