The Army Schoolmistresses
The Army Schoolmistresses were female schoolteachers who taught the children of soldiers in British Army garrison schools for the Royal Army Educational Corps and its predecessors. They were formed as the Army Schoolmistresses in 1848. From 1928, they were known as the `Queen`s Army Schoolmistresses' and they were disbanded in 1970.
