The talk was given intially to FIBIS to commemorate those who served in WWI from British India. It expanded to cover those regiments who served alongside the troops raised in India. Its other purpose was to demonstrate how to use objects as a start point for family history. To make the project more interesting the items were purchased from e-Bay with the intention I would in due course place with relevant institutions or private individuals. The talk has changed over the 5 years 2014-2019. John Kipling, whose father's war poetry I use in my talk is always the penultimate slide leading into final slide where I read an extract from Rudyard Kipling's THE CHILDREN "....That flesh we had nursed from the first in all cleanness was given To corruption unveiled and assailed by the malice of Heaven - By the heart-shaking jests of Decay where it lolled on the wires To be blanched or gay-painted by fumes - to be cindered by fires - To be senselessly tossed and retossed in stale mutilation From crater to crater. For this we shall take expiation. But who shall return us our children?" . I have also included in this group Arthur Tisdall VC whose ancestry in India I researched for a commemorative service in Deal on the centenary of Gallipoli for Arthur and all those from the areas around Deal who died at Gallipoli.
