Absent voters' lists contain the names of service personnel who were away from their homes during the 1918 and subsequent parliamentary elections. The lists contain the absent voters' names and addresses, and details of the service, including regiment, rank and number. For naval personnel name of ship, rating and service number is given. The Dorset Absent Voters' List is published by S&N Genealogy Supplies as digitally enhanced images of the original books and contains 730 pages. I am working from their CD-ROM. This community will contain two 1% random samples: one created by taking the first polling district in each of the four electoral divisions containing about 60-80 names, and the second created by taking each of the men whose electoral reference number is divisible by 100.
