Remembering the lives of those who worked for the Equitable Bank. Halifax Equitable Bank was set up by the Halifax Equitable Building Society in 1899 in order to invest deposits accumulated by the building society, and commenced business on 1st January 1900. In 1913, the word 'Halifax' was dropped from the company's name, and in July 1927 it was taken over by the Bank of Liverpool and Martins. The Bank of Liverpool & Martins Ltd merged with Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank Ltd in January 1928 to become Martins Bank Ltd. Martins Bank Ltd was acquired by Barclays Bank Ltd in 1968. Further information about the people in this community may also be available in Barclays Group Archives (see https://www.archive.barclays.com/ for further information), or Martins Bank Archive (see http://www.martinsbank.co.uk ).
