Soldiers who served with CE IX Corps in France between 1916 and 1918, or who are mentioned in the War Diary. Brigadier General George Peabody Scholfield took up the post of Chief Engineer IX Corps on 20 June 1916 at Bailleul. The commander of IX Corps was Lieutenant General Alexander Hamilton-Gordon. The names have mainly been collected from the War Diary of CRE IX Corps, which is held by the Museum of the Royal Engineers in Chatham. The diary only chronicles the movements of officers and a very small number of NCOs. My grandfather's service record shows that he served in this unit as a Staff Sergeant but he is not named in the war diary. The war diary mostly typed, unlike those of RE Field Companies.
