This community aims to gather WW1 women appointed Dame Grand Cross (GBE), Dame Commander (DBE), Commander (CBE), Officer (OBE), and Member (MBE) of the Order of the British Empire. The community was inspired by the Scarlet Finder site, http://www.scarletfinders.co.uk/192.html, and its extensive list of women who were honoured in this way. Many other women -- munitions workers, telephonists, those who served with Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps -- were awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire (MOBE). A separate community exists for them here: https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/community/2956.
