HMS Dublin was in the 2nd Light Cruiser Squadron at the Battle of Jutland. During the night actions, she fired 117 x 6-inch shells and along with HMS Southampton, attacked and sank a destroyer. She sustained severe damage. Three crew members were killed and 27 wounded when she received five 5.9 shell inch hits from the cruiser SMS Elbing and eight 4.1-inch shell hits from SMS Stuttgart and possibly others. Repairs were not completed until 17 June. The commanding officer at the time of the battle was Captain Albert Charles Scott.
