HMS Lion at the Battle of Jutland

HMS Lion at the Battle of Jutland

HMS Lion was the Flagship of the Battle Cruiser Fleet under Vice Admiral David Beatty. During the Battlecruiser engagement at around 4pm, HMS Lion was hit on the midships Q turret, killing or wounding all within. Prompt action by Major Harvey RM in ordering the flooding of the magazine prevented the loss of the ship and earned him a posthumous VC. In the continuing battle, Lion was hit a total of 14 times, resulting in 100 dead (of which around half were Royal Marines) and 51 wounded.
