These are men who served in the Indian Army and were buried in the only designated place of burial for Muslim soldiers who had died at the temporary Indian Army Hospital in Brighton Pavilion and elsewhere along the south coast. Those who died received burial rites according to their religion. The graves were moved to Brookwood military Cemetery in the 1960's after the site was vandalised but the Burial ground has recently been given a new lease of life as the a Peace Garden. Please see http://www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/themes/places/surrey/woking/woking/woking_muslim_burial_ground/ I was inspired to seek out these men after watching the BBC programme about the Muslim Burial ground and the men who fought so far away from home.
