HMS Neptune was a Battleship evolved from the Dreadnought design and similar to the Colossus-class. She was one of the first battleships to be built with Director gun control and carried out trials of this systen. At Jutland, she formed part of the 5th Division of the Grand Fleet, with Rear Admiral Gaunt commanding this Division. During the battle she fired 48 12-inch shells and was credited with several hits on the German battlecruiser SMS Lutzow. She suffered no damage or casualties.
