The Jackson brothers

The Jackson brothers

Two sons of Esther and John Alexander Jackson from Amberley, Sussex. Some accounts claim that they were twins, but data from the census records suggests that Reginald was in fact 2 years older than Ralph. The brothers joined the Royal Sussex Regiment and served together in 13 Battalion. On 3 July 1916 Reginald and Ralph died of wounds sustained a few days earlier, during a raid that aimed to divert German attention away from the imminent Somme offensive.
