Seaplanes bombed Dover, Deal and Ramsgate on 19 March 1916. This community respectfully remembers the two soldiers and civilians killed and injured, and Flight Commander Bone whose bravery earned him the DSO. Young hero George Edward Philpott deserves a special mention - George made his siblings lie down and shielded a younger sister with his own body. She escaped unhurt but George died in 1917 from his injuries. His brother Ernest died in the same incident.
