24 August 1918

Eighteen members of the 6th Battalion Queen's Own (Royal West Kent) Regiment were killed in action in Picardy on 24 August 1918. They were: Second Lieutenant Snelgrove, Corporal Gorham, Lance Corporal Gorham, Lance Corporal Mather, and Privates Ashdown, Barnett, Birks, Brathwaite, Bullock, Bursell, Flint, Gooderham, Mills, Portfleet, Reeves, Rowell, Spendiff, Wall, and Woodcock. Private William George Spendiff was my grandfather. Among the papers left by my mother are letters to my grandmother from Acting Captain Thomas, and from Private Saunders, the last person to see Private Spendiff before he died. I would love to hear from the families of any of these. Please e-mail [email protected]
