'The memorial erected at Fairfield Sports Ground "In Honoured Memory of the employees of Bryant & May, Ltd., who gave their lives in the Great War, 1914-1918" 'This was relocated to its present address in 1958, and the names of employees who died in WW2 were added. As well as persons who worked at the Fairfield (Road) site, the names of those from the Diamond site (Litherland, Liverpool) are also recorded. The names are illegible, but are recorded in the Brymay Magazine, copies of which are kept at the Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives. The cross is on the IWM memorials database, IWM reference: 18038 Of the sixty five names listed, there are issues in identifying three men: (i) Sheppard, William Charles., Private, The King's (Liverpool Regiment) (ii) Tanner, G. L., Gunner, Royal Field Artillery (iii) Jones, Thomas, Private, Royal Army Service Corps. These same 65 names also appear on the stone tablet, originally in the Garden of Remembrance, and is currently in the possession of the Litherland branch of the British Legion. The tablet is similarly on the IWM memorials database, IWM reference: 2398
