Chaplains who died during the War

Chaplains who died during the War

179 Army Chaplains are said to have died during the War, and this sacrifice, along with the many who won decorations for gallantry (including three Victoria Cross winners) caused King George V to bestow the title 'Royal' on the Army Chaplains' Department in February 1919. Royal Navy Chaplains served aboard ships and often met the same fate as the rest of the crew. Some Chaplains were over the age of military service but still felt called to serve.
