Remembering all who served from Jamaica, West Indies. Jamaica was garrisoned during the First World War by the West India Regiment, who also served in Sierra Leone and German East Africa. In the region of 9800 men served with the British West Indies Regiment, all of whom were volunteers and were issued with service numbers for both the Jamaica War Contingent and BWIR. Although many men were invalided back to the island, the Jamaican authorities did not apply for the men's silver war badges. // Information is derived from various sources and supplemented by 'Jamaica's Part in the Great War 1914-1918' (Appendices I-V) by Frank Cundall. Published by the West India Committee for the Institute of Jamaica 1925.
