The community includes members of the C.E.F. who led the relief efforts at the time of the Halifax Explosion or were stationed there at the time. It also identifies members of the C.E.F. from Halifax and the surrounding area who were serving abroad in December 1917. As news slowly made its way to them they must have been worried. Only a very few have been identified as receiving compassionate leave to return to Canada.
