41 workers from the Hillis & Sons Foundry were killed in the Halifax explosion, the world's worst munitions accident. The explosion was devastating for the local community, a national disaster and deeply traumatic for all involved. James Hillis, owner of the factory, lost his two sons, daughter-in-law and two small grandchildren. This community remembers those associated with Hillis & Sons who lost their lives.
