Royal Marine Light Infantry on the Tyne Cot Memorial

Royal Marine Light Infantry on the Tyne Cot Memorial

"Here are recorded the names of officers and men of the armies of the British Empire who fell in Ypres Salient, but to whom the fortune of war denied the known and honoured burial given to their comrades in death". Panel No 1 of the Tyne Cot Memorial commemorates 207 men of the Royal Marine Light Infantry. Over 170 of them were lost on 26 October 1917, the first day of the 2nd Battle of Passchendaele.
