All Barnsley Lives of WW1 - Barnsley War Memorials Project

This Community will remember the almost 4000 men and women who are named on Barnsley's war memorials and rolls of honour (some appear on more than one) and all those who fell in the First World War with the aim of creating a borough wide Barnsley Roll of Honour. ---------- Any man who is named on a Barnsley War Memorial will be included in this Community once we can identify them. Which is easier said than done! Please contact us if you can help. ------------- We are also now including fallen men and women who are NOT named on any memorial; the criteria for inclusion is that the person has to have been born in Barnsley or lived in Barnsley when he/she enlisted. Indications suggest there could be around 700 of these. ---------------------------------- In addition men and women who were affected by the war in any way are also being added from sources such as the 1918 Absent Voters' List and the local newspapers. This will enable us to Remember all of Barnsley's servicemen and women, nurses, munitions workers, Red Cross volunteers, and even conscientious objectors. ------------- Smaller sub-Communities have been started to Remember the men and women by township, parish or by individual memorial. Just search for Barnsley above and click on Communities to look for a particular grouping. ---- I initially set up this community on behalf of BWMP (see below) but am no longer part of that group so please contact them with any questions.
