Only two female casualties of the First World War are buried in Belgium - Nellie Spindler died in 1917 after the Casualty Clearing Station at which she worked was shelled, and Elsie Mabel Gladstone succumbed to influenza in 1919. They are buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and Belgrade Cemetery, respectively.
