Remembering the lives of those who worked for the Bank of Liverpool. In Dec 1918 Bank of Liverpool merged with Martin’s Bank Ltd to become Bank of Liverpool & Martins Limited. Head Office was at 7 Water Street, Liverpool (former Bank of Liverpool Head Office). Other banks subsequently amalgamated with Bank of Liverpool and Martins Ltd: The Palatine Bank Ltd in 1919; Cocks, Biddulph & Co in December 1919; The Halifax Commercial Banking Company Ltd in Jan 1920; E Reed & Sons/Cattle Trade Bank in 1925; and Equitable Bank in Jul 1927. Bank of Liverpool & Martins Ltd merged with Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank Ltd in Jan 1928 to become Martins Bank Ltd, with Head Office at 7 Water Street until a new one at 4 Water Street opened in 1932. 68 Lombard Street, former Martins Private Banking Head Office, remained as Principal London Office, but was never again a Head Office after 1918. Martins Bank Ltd was acquired by Barclays Bank Ltd in 1968.
