Gregory family of North East Hampshire

Gregory family of North East Hampshire

In WW1 a number of members of the Gregory family served and some were killed. There were many Romany families living in NE Hampshire; some had been here centuries, others were encouraged by the Rev Charles Kingsley to marry and baptise their children in the local Anglican churches. Charles Kingsley School in Eversley and Yateley Village School welcomed Romany children, whilst their parents worked from their caravans and tents on the local common land. Families were still partly itinerant but some had settled. The Gregory family was one of the largest local families. This community is an attempt to record all servicemen with this surname locally in order to identify the men on the local war memorials.
