Lives of the First World War

This community seeks to remember all those who commanded submarines of the Royal Navy or Empire navies during the First World War and up to the end of 1921. It also includes those with pre-war submarine command experience who contributed to the naval war. Among these officers there were 6 awards of the Victoria Cross, and over 85 awards of the DSO or DSC. Around a fifth of those in this community lost their lives during WW1, and of the survivors at least 20 went on to reach Flag rank.
