Lives of the First World War

This is a holding community for those who are known to have worked for Martins Bank and / or the Bank of Liverpool, or their constituent banks, but further work is required to determine exactly which banks they worked for so that they can be linked instead to the communities for those banks. In Dec 1918 Bank of Liverpool merged with Martin’s Bank Ltd to become Bank of Liverpool & Martins Limited. Other banks subsequently amalgamated with Bank of Liverpool and Martins Ltd: The Palatine Bank Ltd in 1919; Cocks, Biddulph & Co in December 1919; The Halifax Commercial Banking Company Ltd in Jan 1920; E Reed & Sons/Cattle Trade Bank in 1925; and Equitable Bank in Jul 1927. Bank of Liverpool & Martins Ltd merged with Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank Ltd in Jan 1928 to become Martins Bank Ltd. Martins Bank Ltd was acquired by Barclays Bank Ltd in 1968.
