Those marked with an asterisk, although locally linked by evidence, remain yet to verified as actual Parishioners on Church Records. 3. Community also includes 16924 Pte. Richard Birtwistle d. 23/03/1918 2 ELR "connected with St. James-the-Less Church, Rawtenstall" (Rossendale Free Press 1918) not recorded on this Memorial. 4. 27007 LCpl. James Foden, DCM of Rawtenstall (Rossendale Free Press 3 May 1919) recorded as presented with decoration at St. James-the-Less bazaar of that month and survived. 5. Community includes 235274 Pte. William Cuff (Rossendale Free Press 3 May 1919) who is not recorded on this Memorial and "attended St. James-the-Less Catholic Church and school and was also a member of the Rawtenstall Liberal Club." 6. Still to be identified (Rossendale Free Press 17 May 1919) "PRESUMED DEAD - MISSING RAWTENSTALL SOLDIER" Rfn James Hampton RIR. "connected with St. James-the-Less RC Church where a memorial service is to be held on Sunday" and "leaves a wife and four children" 7. RC BURIALS: 92947 Frederick Jackson, 26568 Herbert McIntyre, 8407 Joseph White, DA1716 Charles Wise, 5134 John McDonald and T/1565 Martin Hoare.
