This community records those who were noted as Prisoners of War during research into local memorials and sites within the former Borough of Rawtenstall. It does not, in any way, indicate a complete record of all of those locals who were taken as Prisoners of War. NOTES: Still to be identified: 1. Pte Edgar Lord of Bethlehem Unitarian Church, Newchurch-in-Rossendale. 2. Pte Douglas Taylor RWF of Cloughfold (in Hannover). 3. Rossendale Free Press 1/03/1916 has an article with photo "RAWTENSTALL TRAM DRIVER - PRISONER OF WAR IN GERMANY Corporal A.W Riley resided at 21 Rockcliffe Street Rawtenstall up to being called up as a reservist in the Lancashire Fusiliers on August 4th 1914 ……." 4. Pte Willie Parkinson, 14 Adelaide St, Crawshawbooth. Signaller Harry Sellars of Crawshawbooth. Pte Ernest Lord of Hill Street, Crawshawbooth. Pte Herbert Rogers of Forest Holme, Lumb. Pte E. Watts of Cloughfold. Pte Harry Ashworth of Waterfoot. Pte Willie Oldham of Crawshawbooth......and many, many more. 5. 235037 Pte Arthur Haworth of Waterfoot and 203160 Private Thomas Callaghan of Cloughfold are included here as found dead and buried by the Germans.
