HMS Africa - Influenza casualties September 1918

HMS Africa was a pre-dreadnought battleship engaged in convoy protection duties between Sierra Leone and Cape Town during 1917 and 1918. While based at Freetown, Sierra Leone in September 1918, the influenza pandemic struck, with over 50 of her crew of 800 dying of the illness. This community remembers those members of the ships company of HMS Africa who died.
