Carlisle and Cumberland Banking Co - Employees

Remembering the lives of those who worked for the Carlisle and Cumberland Banking Co. Founded in 1836, in 1911 the bank was taken over by the Bank of Liverpool which had already absorbed a number of other northern banks. In Dec 1918 Bank of Liverpool merged with Martin’s Bank Ltd to become Bank of Liverpool & Martins Limited. The Bank of Liverpool & Martins Ltd merged with Lancashire & Yorkshire Bank Ltd in Jan 1928 to become Martins Bank Ltd. Martins Bank Ltd was acquired by Barclays Bank Ltd in 1968.
