Greentown Wesleyan Chapel, Heywood, Lancashire

On 22 October 1920 The Heywood Advertiser reported of a concert held to unveil photographs of the men who served. Killed were Norman Bleakley, Samuel Dutton, Fred Dixon, Arthur Gee, Charles Sweet, John R Lord and John R Lang. Also served were Daniel Ashton, Thomas Ashton, Arthur Butterworth, James Booth, Joseph Barlow, John Craven, Walter Dakin, John R Dakin,William Dawkes, James Dutton, James Fairclough, George T MacDonald, Robert Hollows, Benjamin Hawksworth, Robert Jackson, James Purcell, Joseph Perry, Henry Ramsbottom, Walter Scott, Frank Stafford, James Shatleton (Shackleton?), Joseph Warburton, Robert Whatmough, James Wigley, Frank Wigley & Thomas Wigley. A Roll of Honour was accepted on behalf of the school and the church. A Butterworth & W Dakin spoke on behalf of the lads who served. There were no doubt others but this community focuses on a newspaper article at a particular date. Further information on this Chapel is in the booklet "Greentown Wesleyan Chapel and its Neighbours" produced by the Heywood Family History Group. My thanks for the invaluable help this has provided though I have been unable to verify military evidence to include them all. Listed here or not, they are not forgotten.
