Talbot House, Poperinge, was a sanctuary for half a million men on their way to and the front of the Ypres Salient. The Visitors' Book on the Talbot House Website https://www.talbothouse.be/en/soldiers?index=0 can be used to find many of them. However, this Community focuses on those people who are written about in the letters of Army Chaplain Philip (Tubby) B. Clayton and other T.H archival material which have been assembled by author Jan Louagie (Honorary Secretary of the Talbot House Association) in his book 'A Touch of Paradise in Hell'. The Community has connections with my other Community entitled 'Knutsfordians' as in 1919 'Tubby' Clayton established the 'Service Candidates' Ordination Test School' in the goal of Knutsford's Session House and the Parish Church was used for a daily service. In recognition of this 'Tubby' presented to the town a brass lectern made from shells which still stands today in the church's memorial chapel. The Royal Army Chaplain's who assisted in establishing the school and those who, like Tubby, were its tutors are included in the Talbot House Connections Community.
