The Little Gaddesden Roll of Honour includes men from two families of Johnsons, each of which included a man usually called Frank. Arthur John, William James, Thomas Andrew and Frank were the sons of Thomas Arthur and Jane Eliza Johnson of Ringshall. Frank was killed in action on the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. Arthur cannot be linked to a specific military record so his information has been added as a story within his brother Frank’s entry. Walter Charles Patrick, Alexander Frederick, Archibald Stanley and Francis Edward Henry John were the sons of Walter and Elizabeth Johnson of 38 Little Gaddesden. Francis, known as Frank and a founder member of the Little Gaddesden Boy Scouts, is named Henry F Johnson on the Roll of Honour – possibly to distinguish him from Frank Johnson of Ringshall. Alexander died as the result of sickness and is buried in Little Gaddesden Churchyard.
