There are men whose faces are familiar in the professional life of the city, and men who are well known on the field of sport. Among those sworn in first thing this morning was E B Crockford, the Sutton Coldfield and Warwickshire amateur cricketer, the Warwickshire and international hockey player. He was accompanied by several other men whose prowess in the Midland cricket and hockey field is above the average. There were solicitors and solicitor's clerks, barristers, accountants; in fact, men engaged in all those occupations which call for the highest form of intelligence, men who earn anything from £4 to £10 per week, and they seemed quite pleased at the prospect of the reduction from a comfortable weeks' earnings to the hard-earned regimental pay.
