Description: Additional information; Birth Reg. Q2 1896, Godstone Dist, Surrey. Baptised St Nicholas, Godstone 10 May 1896, parents Obed & Sarah Sophia nee Bryant married Caterham 21 May 1892. George was the eldest of their 3 children. On census day 1901 George, aged 5, born Godstone, lived with his parents, sister Kate & brother Obed at 6 Malt House Cottages, Godstone. His father’s death was Reg. Q2 1904, Guildford Dist. On Census day 1911 George & his siblings were with their mother Sarah Preston, & step-father John Preston (no marriage found) plus Nora, Nellie & Henry Preston, aged 6yrs, 3yrs & 1 month, at 7 Market Parade, Coulsden.

Additional: SDGW Roll says George enlisted in Croydon. His marriage to Alice Amelia Lee (bn. 31 Dec, 1896) was Reg. Q2 1915, Fareham Dist. The birth of their daughter Ellen A Daniels was Reg. Q1 1916 Epsom Dist. Register of Soldiers’ Effects says died Manchester – legatee his widow Alice Skelton. Alice married Stanley Skelton 3 August 1918. He had been discharged with a Silver War Badge in 1916. Alice was widowed again in December 1918 when Stanley died from pneumonia & Influenza (he also has a War Grave in Banstead Churchyard #6759 E Surrey Reg’t).
