Robert Whincop AyresThis photograph always hung in my Grans home, every year a poppy was fastened to it's heavy woden frame. Today it hangs on my wall and I do the same. The photo does not tell of the hard life he had, or how he according to my Gran, had a mischievious sense of humour, but he looks kind. My father never met him, but missed him all his life. Robert was granted 48 hour leave to visit his new son for a few hours and was killed on his return to the front.
