Title: Grave of Richard Gittens, 1916

Description: War grave with cross showing the name, regiment and regimental number, date of death. Also shows that death was accidental and shows that another sapper, Arthur Evan Preece, was also involved.

Additional: My great-great-Uncle, George Henry Willis, served with the 115th Railway Company of the Royal Engineers alongside Richard Gittens. Willis, a Buckinghamshire man, died in 1919 following his return from Egypt and is commemorated in a book called ‘Amersham Remembers’ https://amershammuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/95.pdf This contains information not just about him, but also about the 115th Railway Company. The other soldier on the headstone, Arthur Evan Preece, is documented elsewhere on this site.
