In 1865 the Burtons’ Hotham Hall estate passed by marriage to J.C. Clitherow (d. 1865) who devised his interest on a cousin, Edward Stracey, who assumed the name Clitherow. He was succeeded by a nephew, J.B. Stracey-Clitherow, who left the estate to his stepson who took the name Clitherow.

Rachel, Countess of Dudley, née Gurney (c.1867-1920) was Harry Gurney's sister and adopted daughter of Adeline, Duchess of Bedford (wife of the 10th Duke). Rachel married 2nd Earl of Dudley in 1891, a millionaire mine-owner, landlord of 30,000 acres, two country houses and a palatial residence in London’s Carlton Gardens. Her wedding to the took place in the presence of Edward, Prince of Wales, who was an intimate friend of the groom’s mother. The Countess died in Ireland, in June 1920, from a heart attack whilst swimming.
