Report in St Annes-on-Sea Express, 16/11/1917Rev Wilfred John Harding Severe sympathy will be expressed with Mrs Harding of 5 Osbourne Rd, St Annes, who has received official notification that her husband Rev Wilfred John Harding, MA, chaplain to the Drake Battalion, was killed in action on October 31st. The rev gentleman was 31 years of age and hailed from London. He was educated at Cambridge. He answered his country’s call with alacrity, relinquishing his curacy at Luddenham and joining the RAMC as a Private as early as the first weeks in October 1914. He crossed the Channel the following January and was there stationed at a base hospital at Boulogne. In May last he came to Blackpool to be discharged from the RAMC and was awarded a chaplaincy. Six months last Saturday (10th May) he was married to Miss Mary Riley of Osbourne Rd, St Annes. He again sailed for France on May 29th.

Wilfred John HardingChaplain 4th Class, Wilfred John Harding. Drake Battalion, Royal Naval Division. Aged 31. Died 31st October 1917. No known grave. Commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Son of Richmond Arthur and Alice E. Harding, of Cranmore, Osterley Rd., Isleworth; husband of Mary Harding (nee Riley), of Cranmore, Isleworth, Middx. He was formerly the curate of Luddenden. He spent 2 years as a private in the Royal Army Medical Corps before being commissioned. Killed when returning with stretcher bearers looking for wounded.
