Lives of the First World War

The Roll of Honour, which hangs in St Peter & St Paul's Church, Little Gaddesden and lists 119 names of those from Little Gaddesden, Ringshall and Hudnall who served in the 1914 – 1918 War. Men who have answered their country’s call in defence of a “Scrap of Paper”.

The Roll of Honour, which hangs in St Peter & St Paul's Church, Belton and lists 49 names of those from Belton who served in the Great War 1914 – 1919. Only the men’s names are listed, with a cross to signify those who died; no regiments are given.

Memorial to the ten men of Belton who lost their lives during the Great War. The memorial and adjacent memorial gates to the churchyard were designed and commissioned by Adelbert, 3rd Earl Brownlow. The memorial reads "In Memory of our Glorious Dead 1914 - 1919".

The war memorial on the wall in St Andrew's Church, Middleton on the Wolds, on which the men remembered include Frank Dove and his uncle, Albert Dove. The inscription above the names reads "We heard our Country’s call and we obeyed 1914 – 1918".

The grave of Frank Dove's parents George Tom and Eliza, in the churchyard of St Andrew's Middleton on the Wolds, on which Frank too is remembered. The inscription reads: "In loving memory of Eliza wife of George Tom Dove who died 15th October 1923 aged 63 years. Also Frank son of the above who fell in action in France 28th July 1915 aged 24 years. Rest in Peace. Also George Tom Dove who died 5th November 1936 aged 77 years. Resting with the Lord."

The 1914 15 Star (left) awarded to those who served in any theatre of war against Germany between 5th August 1914 and 31st December 1915, except those eligible for the 1914 Star. Those who were entitled to this medal were also entitled to the British War Medal (centre) and Allied Victory Medal (right).

The 2018 Revised Roll of Honour, which now hangs in St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Little Gaddesden in addition to the earlier Roll. This records that Frank Dove fell on active service.
