Alex in uniform at a photographers at Sheerness close to Queenborough. He was in 6th btn Rifle Brigade before transferring to 9th Btn Rifle Brigade when mobilise to France in Oct 1915.

Alex and his twin brother Charlie

Alex (standing) with his fraternal twin brother Charlie sometime before he joined up in 1915. Charlie joined the King's Liverpool Regiment on 5 April 1916 and survived the war living until the age of 79.

The first tanks in battle

From the war diary on the first day of the battle of Flers-Courcelette. Four tanks went into battle for the very first time, supporting troops including 9th Btn RB and 9th Btn KRRC. D5 "Dolphin" would have been in the area my great uncle was killed.

Originally buried on the battlefield in a grave at 57c.t.2.b.35.25 with an unknown Rifle Brigade soldier. Alex was identified by his disc and a watch engraved with A Evans and his service number. The unknown soldier is buried next to him in grave 1.C.40 (Alex in 1.C.39).
