Hugh Gillen's WW1 Medalstheses are Hugh Gillen (my grandfather's) WW1 medals including the Military Medal (2nd from left) awarded after he was shot several times while showing incredible bravery rescuing comrades under heavy enemy fire outside the town of Arras on 21st August 1918

Letter from the army chaplainThis a copy of the 2nd page of a letter written (1st page is missing unfortunately) by the Army Chaplain Rev Wm R Brown C7 mentioning an "immediate award" on the night he was shot and injured. It states "The decoration is what is called an immediate award and he is well worthy of it for the work he did on the night of the 22nd August. I hope he is rapidly for xxxxx towards recovery again"Contributed by:

Army Discharge CertificateThis is a copy of Hugh's Army discharge certificate giving his enlistment date of 6/11/1916, described as 5ft 7.5ins, fresh complexion with brown eyes and fair hair. Reason for discharge is that he was no longer fit for active war service and he was discharged on 1/3/1919 after 2yrs and 116days.Contributed by:
