Scarborough South Bay at Night by Carl Herman
The painting is undated but Carl Herman was very productive after the Second World War so 1949 may be a good estimate.
Carl Herman painted many watercolours and oils of local landscapes and town views with some portraits. He was chairman of Scarborough Art Society, becoming president in 1954. It is said that his advice was constantly sought by many keen amateur members and that this was never withheld and always given with patience and kindliness. He died in Scarborough in 1955.
