A new recruitUnsure where this was taken, but it is likely to be late 1914/early 1915 at a training camp believed to be in the South of England.

New recruits...Tom (top left) signed up to the West Yorkshire Regiment, in York his hometown, we think shortly after the outbreak of war. This photo we believe was taken at a training camp in the South of England, possibly Brocton. The men are in a various different guises of uniform as there was a shortage of the regulation wear due to the sheer influx of new recruits at the time.Contributed by:

Electoral roll - rank and regiment detailFrom the electoral roll. This shows that Tom had been transferred to the Labour Corps, 488 Home Service, Employment Company. From research I have been told that this was at Brocton. The Labour Corps number was issued between June and September 1917.Contributed by:

1915 Star MedalTom went to France on 22nd August 1915 so was awarded the 1915 Star Medal. Our family had no idea what happened to his war medals and quite by chance this was found on eBay. It had previously been as with a lot of other items in an auction sale. Sadly his other medals were not with them.Contributed by:

Miltary HospitalWe have no idea where this photo was taken or when it was. Tom is on the very right hand side in the middle of the photo with a nurse stood behind him. He was mentioned in The Times newspaper as being wounded in April 1916, but we are unsure what his injuries were.Contributed by:

Movement of the 11th West Yorkshire RegimentThe dates of the entry into the war on this excerpt in France tallies with the date on Tom's medal index card. So at this point he was serving with the 11th West Yorkshire Regiment.Contributed by:
