Herbert Jagger in uniform. His dicharge papers state that he enlisted in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry on 3rd January 1915 at Pontefract. Sergeant Herbert Jagger 147178 was discharched from the 3rd Battalion Special Brigade Royal Engineers on 30th December 1918 after serving 3 years 362 days with the Colours and 165 days in the army reserve. He was discharged in consequence of being surplus to military requirements having suffered impairment since entry into the service Para(392) (XV1a) HR. He was entitled to wear Chevrons blue two and wound stripes one. He was wounded with a schrapnel shard being lodged behind his ear. This caused partial deafness for the rest of his life. He was given the schrapnel shard following an operation - the shrapnel is currently in my possession.
