Post war suffered with long term stomach problems (probably ulcers) from being gassed. Struggled to eat hearty meals often having bread and milk instead. Also suffered from heart problems.

24th Manchester RegimentThis photo shows Charles (top right) with some of his Manchester Regiment comrades. The man on the bottom left is Percy Batt. Charles and Percy were both chosen for draft into the Manchester's together. The rear if this postcard says that it was produced in Italy. The regiment moved there in 1917 and stayed there until the end of the war.Contributed by:
