Title: Local War Casualties - Capt.Johnston Killed

Description: Information has been received at Swinefleet that Captain Hugh McColl Johnston, Army Veterinary Corps, has died of wounds. Captain Johnston's home is at Glasgow, but previous to joining the Army he was assistant to Mr Woodrow, veterinary surgeon, Swinefleet for about three years. He was well liked by all who knew him and many will regret his death. According to a letter received from a Malton officer, Captain Johnston was talking to two brother officers in his tent and stooped to pick up his belt when a stray shell burst and hit him in the back, also wounding one of the other officers.
