Sent by Private David Kirby to his mother in Preston. Transcription: July 24th 1915. My address is: Name and Christian name: Pte D Kirby. Kriegsgefangener, Barracke No. 4. Regiment: Loyal North Lancs. Arbeitslager [Labor camp] Suderzallhaus? Schleswig Via Gustrow in Mecklenburg (Germany). Correspondence: Dear Mother Father & All. Just a line to say how glad I was to receive photo of Flo and Winnie, also the books. Do not send parcels via Gustrow, only letters and post cards. I would be glad if you can send, two pairs of drawers, and send some tea with all parcels, and some tinned meat or salmon. Would like to hear who Tom Lowndes got married to, ask him to write, and Dad and Uncle Tom. Show this Granny. With love to all from your ...? son, Dave.
